Educational Horizons Charter School combines Montessori teaching techniques and curriculum with Florida’s rigorous Florida State Standards. This unique blend of instruction brings the best of state-of-the-art teaching philosophies together with the child-centered individualized mindset of Montessori.
Our Montessori classrooms provide a rich environment to naturally foster children’s desire to work and learn by giving them the opportunity to be spontaneous and engage in meaningful activities under the guidance of a trained instructor. Through their work, children develop concentration, motivation, persistence and discipline. Within this framework of order, they progress at their pace and rhythm according to their individual capabilities.
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are a set of statewide academic standards adopted by 48 states. The CCSS represent rigorous, high stakes academic expectations that will prepare students for College or a Career.
The focus of the Common Core Standards is on raising student achievement in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics by engaging students in important work incorporating ELA skills into all subjects. Informational text from science and social studies lead the students to discover text based answers to higher level questions. Responses are presented through written and oral communication. The ultimate goal of the Common Core Standards is the realization of success for every student. Currently, Florida has adopted these and added and subtracted to become the Math Florida State Standards (MAFS) and Language Arts Standards (LAFS). Our teachers use these to guide instruction and create learning tools.
